Grow a Garden 2 Stealing & Defense
How stealing works
Grow a Garden 2 runs a day/night cycle. When night hits, every player picks a role: Steal or Protect. To steal, walk into another player's garden while the owner isn't inside and grab their crops — it's completely free (in the original GAG, stealing cost Robux). To defend, just stay in your garden at night: while you're present it locks and nobody can touch your plot.
How to steal crops at night
Stealing only opens up during the night phase of the day/night cycle. Here's the loop:
- Wait for night. When the cycle flips to night, you can choose to raid instead of defend.
- Go to another player's garden. As long as the owner is not standing inside their plot (or doesn't notice you), you can grab any of their crops.
- Walk the loot home. While you're carrying stolen fruit, your teleport buttons are removed — you have to physically walk the fruit back to your own garden to bank it.
- Target rare fruit. Common crops aren't worth the trip. The real prize is high-value mutated fruit — that's what experienced raiders go for.
Note: GAG2 ships with movement anti-cheat built specifically to stop the exploit-stealing that plagued the original, so don't expect cheese to work.
How to stop people stealing
Defense is a stack — layer all of these and a thief has nothing worth taking. Rated strongest to weakest:
- Presence lock (free, strongest). Stay inside your own garden at night. While you're present, the plot is locked and no one can steal. This is the single most reliable defense and it costs nothing.
- Defensive plants. Grow plants that fight back:
- Venus Fly Trap — eats players who try to steal (the top defensive plant).
- Dragon's Breath — shoots fire/lasers at intruders.
- Cactus / Baby Cactus — damages anyone who brushes against it (see walls below).
- Poison Ivy / Poison Apple — high-value crops that double as deterrents.
- Walls (see below). Passive barriers around your plot.
- Defensive pets. Some pets help defend your garden against intruders.
- Shovel counter. If a thief already grabbed your fruit, hit them with a Shovel (or stronger gear) to make them drop it. Do it fast — their teleport is disabled while carrying loot, so they're stuck walking, which is your window to catch them.
- Guild defense. Coordinate with guildmates so gardens stay covered when you're offline.
What are walls?
Walls are passive defensive structures that prevent intruders from stealing during night time. The system is confirmed but lightly documented at launch — the game's own wiki notes "not much is known about walls other than this," so expect details to fill in as the game adds purchasable wall tiers.
The reliable community tactic carried over from the original: build walls out of Cactus around your most valuable crops. Cactus damages players who brush it, so the wall hurts and blocks. Two rules:
- Rotate the cactus so they aren't climbable.
- Space them away from the fruit so thieves can't reach over the wall.
Combine walls with Venus Fly Trap, Dragon's Breath, and a defensive pet for a full "fortress" garden.
Stealing & defense FAQ
How do I steal crops at night? Wait for the night phase, enter another player's garden while they're not inside, grab their crops, then walk the loot back to your own plot (teleport is disabled while you carry it).
How do I stop people stealing from me? Stay inside your garden at night to lock the plot — that's the strongest free defense. Then stack defensive plants, walls, pets, and a Shovel counter.
Does stealing cost Robux? No. Stealing is completely free in GAG2 — that's the headline change from the original, where it cost Robux.
How do I get my stolen fruit back? Hit the thief with a Shovel or stronger weapon to make them drop it. Catch them before they reach home, since they can't teleport while carrying loot.
What are walls? Passive night-time anti-theft barriers. Cactus walls are the proven build — rotate them so they're unclimbable and keep them spaced off your fruit.
